Horror from A to 24: Men (2022)

Welcome to a new written series, Horror from A to 24, where I take a look at a horror movie released and/or produced by A24. Going in no particular order, watching whatever is available to me, and how I'm feeling. Also, I've seen a few of these before and a couple I'm in no hurry to revisit.  Anyway, Men ! Amirite?! I didn't know anything about this going in, besides it was a little weird (now an understatement), it was made by Alex Garland, and it appeared to "have something to say".  The movie follows Harper, a woman whose husband killed himself following a violent argument because she wanted a divorce. Harper rents a small two story cottage out in the countryside in England somewhere. She meets Geoffrey, the guy who is renting out the cottage to her. He seems nice enough if not a bit awkward.  Harper then walks around the countryside, finding a echo-y tunnel, until she is inexplicably terrified by what appears to be a child coming toward her. Sure he's ...

Trailer Tuesday: Clown in a Cornfield

Image
(For those of you new here, I use to do a feature here called Trailer Tuesday where I post a movie trailer that strikes my interest on Tuesday's.) I've had this novel for a few years and kept meaning to get around to reading it. I even tried to submit it for my podcast network's book club show, but since there's no horny dragons in it, it never wins. I guess I'm gonna have to read it sooner than later.  -Jason

The Return of the Idiot Or: Retail Therapy

Image
Man, I don't even know if people still do BLOGS anymore. Do people even still write down thoughts and share them to strangers on the Internet? That's what TikTok is, right? (I also have a TikTok, I literally joined TikTok the day it was supposedly going away and was lucky enough not to uninstall it from my phone. Anyway, follow me there !) But I never hear about BLOGS anymore. It's so old fashioned. People don't READ anymore.  Well, maybe it's time to restart a blog because I've always been late to popular trends. YOLO! I honestly haven't thought about this blog in years but lately I been thinking about writing. More specifically, MY writing. You see, I'm working on a book. I've been writing this since 2018, maybe 2019. Not continually, just off and on during those years. Middle of 2024 I decided it was high time I get the fucking thing published so I willed myself to sit down and write the rest of it. And on Christmas Day 2024, I wrote the final p...

The First Two Episodes of "Friday The 13th: The Series"

Image
Being a fan of both horror movies AND the Friday the 13th films, I got curious when I heard there was a show called "Friday the 13th: The Series". I didn't think it was weird because Freddy Krueger had a TV show called Freddy's Nightmares. But it was more or less Tales From The Crypt but with Freddy giving the terrible puns. And only a small handful of episodes had to do with Freddy, otherwise it was just random horror stories. But what would "Friday the 13th: The Series" be about? Would it get into the history of Jason Voorhees? Would it take place on that fateful night he drowned? Would it just feature different campers getting killed each week? Turns out, nope. It has nothing to do with Jason Voorhees, Pamela Voorhees, or Camp Crystal Lake. OK, then. It's called "Friday the 13th: THE SERIES" so...maybe it's about a rash of weird things happening on every Friday the 13th and a cop, a stubborn reporter, and a train conductor must tea...

Grief Isn't Unique But Only You Know What It's Like

I haven't mentioned this here on the blog cause I've been having a hard time coming to terms with it. And I'm still not completely over it and I doubt I ever will. But I haven't written anything, blog post nor book, in awhile so I think I need to get over that hump and let my feelings and thoughts out somehow. Back in April my mother passed away. It was very sudden and unexpected. The day I found out, it was a Tuesday. I was off work and it was first day off after working 6 days straight. I was all set to relax that day, watch some YouTube, then go to a friends house to play a game. Then I got a phone call from my sister. I immediately though "Oh shit what happened" cause she doesn't call me, she texts me. But she told me the news. And my life hasn't been the same ever since. She died of a heart attack and it's unsure if it was quick or if it lasted awhile before she died. The part I can't get out of my head was the fact that I took h...

Storytime: My High School Senior Picture

Image
Let me tell you the story behind this picture. I was a senior in high school from 1997 to 1998. For like the entire HISTORY of this school (George Rogers Clark, go Pioneers I guess) the Yearbook Committee used the same photographer to take the Senior's pictures every year. Their shop was within super walking distance to my house and they had a great reputation and took phemonial photos. Except in 1997. The committee went with someone else. Someone who only had a shop for a few years, NEVER took high school photos, and was two towns away. The woman in charge of the yearbook committee was: A-The same teacher in charge of the school newspaper in which I was also on. B-The biggest bitch I have ever seen so as a result she: C-Didn't like me a whole lot. So since I saw her every day, she would harass me about when I was going to this photographer's place to get my photo in to her because THE DEADLINE IS COMING UP HOLY FUCK THE DEADLINE! IF YOUR PICTURE ISN...
