Horror from A to 24: Men (2022)

Image
Welcome to a new written series, Horror from A to 24, where I take a look at a horror movie released and/or produced by A24. Going in no particular order, watching whatever is available to me, and how I'm feeling. Also, I've seen a few of these before and a couple I'm in no hurry to revisit.  Anyway, Men ! Amirite?! I didn't know anything about this going in, besides it was a little weird (now an understatement), it was made by Alex Garland, and it appeared to "have something to say".  The movie follows Harper, a woman whose husband killed himself following a violent argument because she wanted a divorce. Harper rents a small two story cottage out in the countryside in England somewhere. She meets Geoffrey, the guy who is renting out the cottage to her. He seems nice enough if not a bit awkward.  Harper then walks around the countryside, finding a echo-y tunnel, until she is inexplicably terrified by what appears to be a child coming toward her. Sure he's ...

Trailer Tuesday: Clown in a Cornfield

(For those of you new here, I use to do a feature here called Trailer Tuesday where I post a movie trailer that strikes my interest on Tuesday's.) I've had this novel for a few years and kept meaning to get around to reading it. I even tried to submit it for my podcast network's book club show, but since there's no horny dragons in it, it never wins. I guess I'm gonna have to read it sooner than later.  -Jason

Movie Review: Freddy vs Jason

Image
15 years ago last week (yeah, I'm a bit late to the game, my personal life, uh, got in the way, so to speak) the movie Freddy vs Jason came to theaters. And I wanted to give it some love. Currently on Rotten Tomatoes , a site I'm not a fan of anyway because it scares and confuses me, it sits at 41% from "critics" and 50% from "fans". Whereas on IMDb , it's got a 5.8 out of 10. People don't seem to like this movie and I'm not sure why. Lemme explain why, for me personally anyway, this movie was a big deal when it finally came out. We need to go back in time to 1991. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare was released and everyone involved said this is totally the last Freddy movie, we swear, ignore us crossing our fingers behind our backs. We found a way to kill Freddy and he was dead for sure. It involves a 3-D gimmick that won't hold up but he's dead, you guys. Promise. Flash-forward to 1993 and we get Jason Goes To Hell . This...

Horror Collection 6 Movie Pack

Image
One of my favorite places to go are used DVD stores. There's one local to me called Disc Replay (maybe it's a chain across the country, I don't know, I'm too lazy to Google it. Oh alright...looking on their website under the locations tab, I see they're only in the mid-west. Sorry East Coast and West Coast. These are fruits in which you must not taste) and they often sell DVD's for 3.33 because of tax reasons I guess. If you buy 5 movies, the 6th one is free (lowest priced is the free one). Because of this, I always try to get all 6 movies for the same price but their pricing is weird because they'll have the standard stuff for 3.33 but then they'll have Primer for 19.99. I don't even know WHY they have it for that much. Don't even get me started on how much they wanted Men At Work . I almost pooped in my hand and threw it at them as a form of protest. (Future reference, don't invite me to protests.) Anyway, the point of all of this...
